Pilbara Marine Conservation Partnership – Coral Reef Health

The Pilbara Marine Conservation Partnership (PMCP) will enhance the net conservation benefits of the globally significant coral reef ecosystems of the Pilbara by providing an assessment of the condition and trajectory of key ecological values. We are looking at the macrophyte communities associated with shallow reefs and correlating spatial and temporal patterns in abundance and species richness to environmental variables. We are also looking at grazing and growth rates of the canopy-forming seaweed Sargassum. These assessments will inform and complement existing governance and management arrangements.  The PMCP will provide ongoing advice and assessment for conservation efforts in the region, providing lasting benefits.
