Harriet Davies

My interests are in both the social and ecological resilience of island marine systems and developing appropriate anticipative management strategies to best equip island communities to cope with socio-ecological change. My PhD research is based in remote island ecosystems in the Northern Territory and I am working closely with the Indigenous communities to capture their extensive knowledge of the marine environment. Using an interdisciplinary approach my research will combine both empirical ecological data and traditional ecological knowledge to characterize the marine environment, conduct a spatial assessment of socio-ecological resilience and develop appropriate management strategies.

PhD thesis topic: Planning for change in island seascapes: Considering the future of the socio-ecological seascape within marine spatial planning
