I think all seaweeds are neat, but my current interests are on brown seaweeds.  Seaweeds produce an array of defensive chemicals which are thought to help mediate harmful activity of grazers and abiotic factors, such as ultraviolet radiation.  My thesis research investigates how geographic and temporal changes in seaweed chemical concentrations may affect other ecological processes like grazing and dispersal.  I hope to improve our understanding of the ecological roles played by seaweed chemicals and how environmental pressures may change the physiology and chemical composition of habitat-forming seaweeds.

PhD thesis topic: Chemical physiology of phenolic compounds in brown seaweeds
